Transformation

The very aim of our society seems to be to remove from people responsibility for their lives and acts. The way of transformation must be the exact opposite of this. Whatever else it may lead to, it must make us into free, responsible individuals, able to direct our own lives in accordance with the greatest objective good.

Very succinctly put. I ran screaming away from western religion (among other reasons) because I have a problem with sheep. Human ones, that is. I have a hard time respecting folks who act according to what another person (parent, friend, spouse, priest, etc.) tells them, without thought or question. Yes, life is more difficult when one has to continually evaluate situations and periodically re-evaluate morals/ethics, but it's SO MUCH MORE rewarding, enjoyable and satisfying!
